Some Early Dates in the San Francisco Story

1026x702Here are some important dates from the early story of Yerba Buena and San Francisco.

September 28, 1542

November 6, 1595

  • Sebastian Rodriguez Cermenho entered a bay on the Marin Coast which he named La Bahia de San Francisco, the present Drake’s Bay.
  • This is the first recorded use of the name that was later to be applied to San Francisco itself.
